My name is Kirsty Reilly and I am based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
My work is predominantly made from various types of metal, whether found or fabricated. Working with metal is a mixture of joy and frustration, as intricate processes combine with more free and forceful ones. The process of manipulating a pristine surface of silver or steel with hammer marks, traces of forming methods, or delicate textures can be daunting at first; altering pure surface. The contrast of delicacy and harshness coexist, and is an intuitive attempt to convey emotion and create jewellery that is sculptural. Using the human experience as metaphor with all of its’ contradictory elements, materials are set in contrast, celebrating the richness of their difference.
